Job Title: Part-time Magistrate Judge
Annual Salary: $17,718.00

The part-time Magistrate Judge will exercise the jurisdiction and powers of a Magistrate Judge as defined in the Official Code of Georgia Annotated 15-10-2. These duties will include the hearing of applications for and the issuance of arrest and search warrants, First Appearance, Committal, Civil, and County Ordinance Hearings; and any other duties as assigned by the Chief Magistrate.
Pursuant to the Official Code of Georgia Annotated 15-10-22 (a), each applicant shall have been a resident of Dawson County for one year preceding the beginning of the term of office and shall as of such date be at least 25 years of age and shall possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
The preferred applicant will possess either a Juris Doctorate or Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Pre-law or related field. The preferred applicant shall have five years’ experience working in a criminal justice or judicial setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of a Magistrate Judge. Applicant must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
