Job Title: Personal Property Appraiser I
Department: Dawson County Tax Assessor
Salary: $15.26 - $23.66

This position is responsible for performing appraisals and establishing valuation of all personal property in the county, i.e. business, vehicles and boats. Prepare and maintain tracking system for personal property returns to taxpayers and pertinent records. Requires research for locating property as well as research for establishing value, depreciation and comparable. Conducting on-site audits for businesses to determine Fair Market Value returns are accurate. Provides technical assistance to the public related to personal property valuation and assists with real estate questions. At times, works with field appraisers when necessary to assist in real property appraisals.
Applicant must be 21 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or its equivalent; maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and have no adverse driving record or felony conviction. Appraiser I and/or Appraiser IA courses, Valuation of Personal Property, given by the Georgia Department of Revenue, and an Appraiser I Certification from the Georgia Department of Revenue is preferred. Applicant must have knowledge and understanding of standard property appraisal methods, techniques, tax assessment laws, and policies and procedures for Georgia. Individual should be able to interact with the public, provide good customer service, have an understanding of basic office equipment and computer skills. Knowledge of the WinGAP Personal Property program is a plus. Applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
